Review BVM Congress 2021

BVM congress, 7-8 June 2021

Creative approaches – and: tasty beer tasting

This year's BVM congress "Personas vs. Segments – What's the Story?" offered exciting insights and innovative approaches. It took place as an online event on 7 and 8 June with almost 200 participants.

succeet was there as a cooperation partner – we congratulate BVM on their inspiring event!

Award ceremony – state of the art

BVM Innovation Award 2021 goes to: DB CX-Impact Simulator.
  • Ingo Sander, rc-research & consulting;
  • Johannes Lüken, IfaD Institut für angewandte Datenanalyse;
  • Dr. Carsten Erfgen, DB Fernverkehr.

Congratulations!!!

BTW: there were 12 submissions this year. What's striking is the focus on cooperation, says laudator Sabine Menzel – rarely does a company apply by itself, "a mix of methods for a strong result" is the trend.

succeet is particularly pleased about the three nominations because each of them involves a 'succeet21 virtual' exhibitor: Bilendi, IfaD, SKOPOS!

You can read more about the award winners – including the category 'young researcher' – here, on the BVM website, in German.

Best of FAMS – great job!

Laudator Hartmut Scheffler:
"FAMS vocational training has never been a self-runner. Motivating has always been important. (...) There will be no 'business as usual', no stagnation in FAMS training because it's both right and important for the industry."

Pecha Kucha – to the point

The Pecha Kucha session turned out to be an interesting format with seven concise presentations. The following three presentations on creative approaches in target group research scored best in the audience voting and were expanded upon in a panel discussion:

  • From Zero to Hero. How to unearth hidden potential for Gen Z and Millennials in the beverage category. Anton Kozka, Happy Thinking People.
  • Marrying Customer and Survey Data - How brands4friends gained market and customer insight at the same time. Nadja Böhme, Factworks.
  • From Segments to Personas. Or: From strategy to tactics. Dr. Gerhard Keim, Point Blank.

succeet's take: Pecha Kucha – really good!! Especially in combination with longer slots. It's the variety that does it.

Overheard – verbatim quotes

"Companies fail because it is unclear what they stand for. (...) It’s for the management to decide!"
Prof. Dr. Christian Schulze, Associate Professor of Marketing, Frankfurt School of Finance & Management

"We market researchers should make sure that the personas are actively used in the companies. (...) Bring personas to life and keep them alive, include follow-up measures."
Sören Scholz, CEO Products & Methods, Interrogare

"There are always new questions to be asked because knowledge is infinite."  and
"In some situations I would actually refrain from asking questions. The challenge is: how can I get people to talk without asking them."
Dr. Christiane Quaas, Sanofi Aventis

Tasty delights #bvm21

About 40 congress participants met for a virtual evening event and beer tasting with beer sommeliere Anja Kober-Stegemann – sponsored by mo'web research. So interesting and tasty!

So, what did we learn?
  • Always store beer upright.
  • Beer does not go bad.
  • Beer as an investment (edition beers – aha!)
  • Beer can be beneficial to health – it all depends on the right amount ?

Before the drinks, the German Market Research Award for special commitment had been announced. The winners are the BVM regional groups, whose digital evening events have met with enormous interest. Congrats!
